Water Tank Installation The Gap

Rainwater tank supply and installation for The Gap and northwest Brisbane area homes. The suburb receives around 1,500mm of rain annually — most of it falling fast and hard during summer storms. A properly installed tank captures that roof water for toilets, laundry and irrigation. Full licensed plumbing connections and compliance certification included.

Rainwater Tanks in The Gap — Capture the Downpour, Cut Your Bills

The Gap gets close to 1,500mm of rain annually — much of it falling in heavy summer storms. A rainwater tank lets you catch that water from your roof rather than letting it run into the stormwater system, storing it for toilets, laundry, gardens and outdoor use. For many The Gap households, a well-sized tank reduces mains water consumption by 30–40% and pays for itself within a few years.

Many properties in The Gap and surrounding northwest Brisbane suburbs sit on larger, often sloped blocks — the hilly terrain at the foot of the D'Aguilar Range means more options for gravity-fed tank systems and good roof catchment areas. We advise on the right tank type and size for your property's layout, then handle the full installation including all licensed plumbing connections.

All installation work is certified and compliant with Queensland plumbing regulations and council requirements. We advise on council rebates where applicable.

What Can You Use Rainwater For?

Rainwater can supply most of your household's non-drinking water needs.

Toilet Flushing

Typically 20–25% of household water use. Requires a licensed connection with appropriate backflow protection.

Laundry

Washing machines use approximately 10–15% of household water. Rainwater connection requires a licensed plumber.

Garden & Irrigation

Outdoor watering, irrigation systems and garden hoses. Connect directly or via pump — no licensed plumber required for outdoor-only use.

Outdoor Taps & Car Wash

Outdoor tap connections for car washing, pathway and driveway cleaning, filling pools and general outdoor use.

Indoor connections require a licensed plumber

Rainwater used for toilets and laundry must be plumbed in correctly with proper cross-connection controls to prevent rainwater from mixing with or contaminating the town water supply. This work requires a licensed plumber and a compliance certificate. All our indoor connections are certified to Queensland standards.

How We Install Your Rainwater Tank

A complete installation handled by licensed plumbers — from first assessment to compliance certificate.

1

Site Assessment & Sizing

We assess your roof catchment area, available installation space, and what you want to use the rainwater for. From this we recommend the right tank size and type — whether a standard poly tank, slimline, underdeck, or bladder tank — to match your property and goals.

2

Stable Base Preparation

A full tank can weigh several tonnes. We confirm the base is appropriate — concrete slab, compacted gravel pad or a purpose-built stand — and position the tank in the right location close to the main downpipe and supply area.

3

Inlet, Outlet & First-Flush Diverter

We connect the downpipe to the tank inlet and install a first-flush diverter — a device that discards the first dirty water off the roof before it enters the tank, keeping your water clean. Tank overflow is also connected to drain safely away from the property.

4

Pump & Filtration Setup

Most indoor connections require a pressure pump to maintain adequate flow. We select and install an appropriate pump and any filtration required, and connect the supply line to your plumbing system. A backflow prevention device is installed where the system connects to town water (for backup supply).

5

Test, Certify & Customer Handover

We test the full system before we leave — inlet, pump, all connections and overflow. We issue a compliance certificate for the plumbing work, and walk you through how the system operates, how to maintain it and what to check periodically.
